January Club News

Rotary Leadership Institute is highly recommended if you want to learn about Rotary. The next class is in Blacksburg on February 6th. Please go to www.rli33.org to learn about the Rotary Leadership Institute. The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a series of fast-paced, interactive, one-day courses offered to refine a Rotarian's leadership skills and increase their base of knowledge in Rotary. I recommend these classes to everyone who is or will be in a leadership role in our club. Right now, the following Rotarians need to register on the site for February 6th: Al Flora, Walter Hughes, and Pat Cundiff. Joanna Hudzik will attend one of the other class dates. Please join us to meet other leaders from our district.

The January 2010 Newsletter has been posted to the District web site. Click on this link or copy it to a web browser.
http://www.directory-online.com/Rotary/Accounts/7570/Newsletter/0/January%202010%20Newsletter.pdf . Please take a few minutes to learn about the Group Study Exchange team from Brazil, a clean water project with the extension service, and other worthwhile projects in our district. The newsletter also promotes our district conference.

Our Members:
We are glad to welcome Cindi Hendricks to our club. Please take a moment to welcome her. Rev. John Gardner and Joey Cornwall were also inducted last month. I've added their email addresses in the carbon copy for you to update your address book.

We are saying goodbye to Jim Bailey who retired. He's been a member of our club for over 31 years. Jim will be truly missed. Jim's cell phone is the same 540-761-5861. Jim's new address is 9800 N Seminary Rd Lot 35 Edinburg, TX 78541. Jim joined Rotary in RM in 1978. Joe Hart was his sponsor. Scott Martin moved to Louisville, Kentucky to build a massive park. We appreciate the contributions of Scott and Jim to our club and our community.

Our Fundraiser:
We are adding a fundraiser to be able to help our local charities meet the needs of our community. We are selling $100 tickets for a reverse raffle and dinner on February 20th. The people of Franklin County are hurting. We will split the $8,000 to 10,000 proceeds with charities such as Helping Hands. The club will vote on the charities that will receive our support. The grand prize is $5,000. If you didn't get your tickets, please see Lisa Schenk.

I really appreciate your encouragement and support. We are accomplishing a lot as a club and I'm honored to be your club President and your friend.

Yours in Rotary,

Walter
